Oscar is Writer of the Week!

Every week, I get to read something that makes me go "Wow"—and this week, it was a poem by Oscar, one of my brilliant students from Burgess Hill.

His challenge was to look closely at his own name and turn the letters and sounds into a world of ideas.

Here's what he created:

How he did it:

Oscar didn't just choose random words—he zoomed in on the letters and sounds in his name and let his imagination build from there.

  • O – a world, a football, a moment of surprise: "Oh!"

  • S – super snakes

  • C – seas of imagination

  • AR – the sound of "pirates"

  • Scar – the hidden word inside his name (and a lion from the Lion King!)

Every image links cleverly back to his name, and what's more, he gave it a thoughtful shape and rhythm. The repetition of "In my name…" ties it all together beautifully.

A huge well done to Oscar! 🎖️ I hope this poem is just the start of many more.
