Slang, poetry and woodlice!

Have you heard of a Billy Baker, Grammer zow, Parson's pig, or Cheese log?

They're all other names for a woodlouse!

This was such a fun lesson! To pepper up one KS3 student's writing, I set her the task of listing all the slang that was personal to her. After a quick quiz on the Oxford Words of the Year and gleaming inspiration from Janet Kay's 'Old Tongue' poem, we stumbled on crazy woodlouse names from around the country.

We certainly found them very funny indeed!
